Once again, the organic industry is under assault. As we alerted you earlier this year, Monsanto is eager to resume the marketing and sale of their Roundup Ready™ alfalfa.

Fortunately, the possibility that Monsanto’s Roundup Ready™ alfalfa may be deregulated by the USDA has caught the attention of two leading members of Congress: Senator Patrick Leahy and Congressman Peter DeFazio. We are joining with our partners at Center for Food Safety in… Continue

The Bots Are Here Be Aware! It is TOO LATE TO STOP THEM!

Bots are software algorithms or formulas that are specifically designed to perform repetitive patterns, actions or duties. We are using them (or they are using us) daily, without even knowing it. We need to be aware of them, and participate in the process of evaluating them. Here is a good presentation on the subject courtesy of the Global Guerrilla:

The Daemon Bot

It is pretty scary, and a good… Continue

Hi all,

As some of you may already know, I am relocating to northern California to start a new life. Part of that "transition" will be a new radio program in downtown Ukiah (soon to be a Transition Town) at the Mendocino Environmental Center.

It has long been my dream to host a show at a radio station in the downtown of a small American town, ala the show "Northern Exposure", and that has now become a reality. This show will be a forum for the locals to use to discuss issues, listen to good mu… Continue

From the Global Guerillas: Entrepreneurship as Resilience

One of the best ways you can prepare for the future is to train yourself to become an entrepreneur -- essentially a person that makes their own economic opportunities. It's going to become a major differentiator between those that succeed and those that fail in a harsh global system (this expertise has been deprecated by a system that prides itself on manufacturing salaried consumption bots). So, as your salary melts away, your pension evaporates, or your job gets outsourced -- here's a quick gu… Continue

good Morning Terri: Are these two web sites and the people attached the only things going in AZ? I have been searching for something to join, you know an actual movement with meetings, objectives, and organization? Thnx for the Transition info. It looks promising, but again someone has to get it started.

Are we it? If we are I don't think we are doing enough, or I do not how to connect.

I am going to that cuba movie, I'm hopeful for that function.

I have already been studying the Cuba model and am excited about that.

I wish I could go to Cuba or Bolivia and get dirty.

I turned my back on revolution when I screamed about Nicaragua in the 80's and my social network told me to shut up and have fun (long as I worked sixty hours a week).

I now see that as a mistake and take personal responsibility for the evil that the American Empire has perpetrated over the intervening thirty years.

Not in a prima donna way, just acknowledging that I knew what was going on thirty years ago and chose to not do anything about it. I wish I hadn't.

The transition movement sounds applicable.

Though I am enjoying the hell out of learning to raise food and working on my permie site, my first love is philosophy and politics. My project must still come first, but I will not be satisfied untill I am actively working with an organization that has the potential to initiate great change.

There are many directions to take, I need one to focus on.

I too, am a revolutionary---glad you're here--charly

Hi Terri- Charly here from the permie site. How are you? Now this Transition Towns Movement has my attention. I'm sorry I didn't jump all over your common bank activities, I'm not much of a banker. I am a politician and am searching for an outlet for my desire to effect change. You are abviously very active (would you call yourself an Activist?) Talk to me about Transition. I'll do some research when I have time, but I'd like your take on it.

sounds wonderful. I have been thinking that edible landscapes, especially herb gardens, could be part of birthing centers, midwives offices, senior care centers, centers for rehabilition - both for developmentally disabled and physically disabled. Nothing like digging and growing plants to heal the spirit and rejuvinate the body!

Hi Terri,
very nice photos. And thank you very much for posting the transition town pdf and info. Very educational.
I learned about transition towns only recently after joining this forum. I have been thinking for some time about how local communities can be developed in Phoenix that derive at least part of its income from agriculture and is at least partially off the grid, and finally decided to put in down in a blog. Until I joined this network I did not know how to find people interested in these issues. I would welcome your thoughts on my blog 'sustainable communities' and any suggestions on how these ideas can be shared with more people. Welcome to azhs.
