What a difference from the "before" picture. Love that there is plenty of space for kids and adults in wheelchairs and scooters to move around the planters and get involved with the plants. A shout out to Gregg Goodman - Exec Dir of Horses Help, To…

Happenings at Horses Help

For those of you who don’t know, Horses Help (www.horseshelp.org) is a therapeutic riding facility in north Phoenix that serves the valley’s special needs population. AZHS has been helping Horses Help implement plans to become a more sustainable organization including obtaining a grant for the rainwater cistern that was installed in November (check out Dana’s photos of that event on this site). The director of Horses Help, Gregg Goodman is working on a lar… Continue

Into the Realm of Sustainability

My journey into the realm of sustainability didn’t begin with an ‘aha’ moment or even a gradual realization that it’s the wise way to live – no, I was born into it. I grew up in the Cities in Minnesota but spent many weeks each summer at my grandmother’s house in a small town in central Minnesota (population 83) near the family farm. My grandmother did not have trash pickup so we learned from an early age how not to generate much trash. Dishes were washed in a tub in the sink so the dishwater co… Continue

I have little pink caterpillars

I found a little pink caterpillar eating the purple flowers of my lab-lab bean. I wondered if the color of the flower was making my little friend pink so I looked for some more caterpillars on the same plants and found some - one looks like it is turning pink too. Way cool! I think they are caterpillars… Continue

Thanks for the info on the chicken feed. I am pretty sure I will switch over to organic as soon as I add the chicken wire to the coop to keep out the wild birds which should be when I run out of the chicken feed I just bought. Good to hear I don't have to travel down south for it. Hope to see you again!

I apologize I haven't got that oregano info to you.... I will do that now.
I do love the "earth" communities~there is a giving spirit as paying forward. So nice.
I went to Ken Singh's Oasis and he almost gave me a rue plant and found that they were too big. I know what it smells like and I can identify it now. No seeds in home depot for rue....still looking...I tossed cayenne powder on wall and in a few spots in soil... as kitties don't like it...have to "train" Mark to get out there once/day. I have worked on him to go right out after work, yet, not a constant yet....

Oh awesome! Please, let me know if I may offer anything to them. Thank you!
It was great working with you again...
We have to create a guild/crusade of men. Educate them to be in touch with their inner primal urge to mark their territory.....I think Mark is starting to enjoy coming home after work and letting go, so to speak..... haha! Tahnks for all the helpful advise!
Have a great night....

Dear International Goddess,
Now all I have to do is find some Rue....Seeds or seedlings......I'll take whatever. I will be on the hunt for that. It has great medicinal qualities as well.
The cat has made 2 piles in my yard. As the sun was setting, I planted a number of seeds, watered them and kept the backyard light on (Mercury light) and the cat left no traces... Mark did his biz as well. I just want the seeds to take and not have that cat disrupting them. Oh well, life in progress right.....
Thanks again for all your help!
Smiles,
Jenn
