Hopi Corn: Mother of Life

Today I came across the 2003 video Hopi Corn: The Mother of Life. At first I thought, "I don't have 30 minutes to spend on a video," but once I started watching, 30 minutes seemed like nothing.

Spring into solar cooking

It was time. The solar cooker had been idle all winter, reflectors folded, but winter was done and spring had arrived. Poop du Jour

This morning’s workshop at Dolce Verde – installing an outdoor urine-diverting compost toilet – got off to a lively start. Instructor Chip displayed the main fixture and talked about how the toilet would work. Given most people’s conditioning about human waste, there was a broad range of opinion on the information being shar… Continue

Let's hear it for compost! This spring I had a potato plant growing in my compost bin. It thrived till the temperature got over 100, then it wilted away, even though I water the compost regularly. I'm participating in the pumpkin throw down, and Je…

Someone asked what type solar cookerI use, and whether I bought it or made it. I use a Sun Oven borrowed from a friend, and it's effective and easy to use. I've heard good things about Sport Ovens, too. Before the Sun Oven I experimented with a hom…

Live and learn! I tried roasting fennel this afternoon and ended up with what looked like dehydrated celery. It takes a little practice to get the timing down.

My daughter (11 y.o.) Baked some cookies in ours, but she got distracted and didn't watch them. They basically were little hockey pucks. She will be more careful next time.

Nice job on the bread! I LOVE cornbread. Your oven gets to 325? Holy cow! Mine never quite seems to push 300. Not a story... but I did grass-fed spare ribs the other week, YUM!

As an unpaid "taste tester" I will attest to the yumminess of the resultant corn bread!

I know what you mean. I experience both trepidation and elation. I agree with those increasing #s of folks who state that we're at the end of the age of fossil fuels. If only we were at the end of the age of fossils. ;-)

Chris,
I did work with Charlie...actually I found this group because I googled Charlie looking for a presentation he put on over a year ago at a farming conference, and I saw your comment about him on a discussion. I was planning to jump in on the conversation soon.
Now I help cashier at McClendon's Select Organics stands at Town and Country market and Scottsdale Market, in season. I also do some organic garden maintainance.
Thanks for the welcome.
