Very inspiring - thanks for posting! I'd be interested in learning more about how they get community buy in to maintain the gardens. Who works, who benefits, etc.

What skills and resources do you bring to this group?
City planner for Scottsdale. Love working with the community. Passion for sustainability. Currently working through the red tape and logistics to get a community garden program started in Scottsdale - specifically the southern area.
Hi Carrie,
city sponsored cy ommunity garden sounds wonderful. There has lately been a number of discussions about getting community gardens going...and hopefully there will be a critical mass of people wanting to make it viable. Right now interested persons are too far away from each other for this to be practical for many of us. Welcome!
Sure, that would be great to meet there sometime. It's pretty darn hot right now and the gardens aren't at their best, but you can get the basic idea. I'll be there Saturday morning at dawn and Monday at 9am with some other volunteers. The website is http://www.sccgardenclub.com/. Which park off Hayden? I've got 5 kids so have been to most of the Scottsdale parks :) Got to put the 5 to bed now, so talk to you tomorrow.
Welcome, Carrie! I am a Scottsdale resident and active gardening with youth at the Scottsdale Community Garden at SCC. There are many available plots there right now. I wonder if there could be some sort of partnership with the city to encourage more gardening to happen in that established community garden space? I'm curious about what area in S. Scottsdale you are looking at getting a new garden going too? A few years ago, we (Resources for Health's Roots & Shoots program www.resourcesforhealth.org) got our first garden grant and I spoke with folks at the senior center and Vista del Camino to try to set something up, but only hit roadblocks. I think the times have changed since then, though. Thanks for joining us and I look forward to learning more about your work!
Hi Carrie and Welcome! Wow - a city sponsored community garden program - what a wonderful idea. How can we help you out with that? I know that when we've tried to work with various city entities, it's been difficult to say the least. If we can provide you with any assistance, let me know!
