Oh yea, I'm in. I have one issue - the pumpkin I would enter grows in the BVR Neighborhood Garden. Rule 1 reads: "The pumpkin must be grown in you home garden." Can we amend this to allow for pumpkins from a community garden?

i like the future you dream of. I'm finding more and more through experience, as short as my life's been thus far, that nothing really matters as much as spending quality, truthful time with others. With the possibilities you have mentioned here, it…

Too bad Lisa-the-bug-girl is busy with fieldwork in Kenya - she'd know the difference! I have to admit, my first inclination was that these were assassin bugs too. Let us know what transpires.

yes, they may be assassin bugs, elder bugs as i know them. i've done some more looking around and they look a lot more like a species of leaf footed bugs, which they say will suck the juice out of the fruits. i'll keep an eye on them, watch them mat…

These look like assassin bugs, young and not fully mature. They eat other bugs, and I don't think they will bug your poms. Kind of like a praying mantis because it eats all bugs. They have a "probe" on their head to suck out other bug guts :)

So here's a fun topic - Stink Bugs! I found some today on my pomegranates, was curious to find out what they were and ended up discovering that they will eventually wreak havoc on the pom fruits. :( Has anyone had experience with these? From what I'…

Buena Vista Ranchos Neighborhood Garden Update

The garden is growing! With the help of numerous neighborhood volunteers, a Girl Scouts Troop and a few 4-H members, we have started a 25'x6' vegetable garden bed, a herbal area, a composting bin and planted 2 trees, an apple and a pomegranate.

In the vegetable bed, so far we've planted tomatoes, radishes, peppers, zucchini, spinach, beets, carrots, lettuce, beans and cucumbers. Some pretty good stuff! And in herbs we've got some rosemary, oregano, yarrow, and calendula. Oh

An Outline

So today, as i was sitting in a coffeshop in Taos, NM feeling very caffeinated, i was pondering the future of potential valley school and community gardens (and how great they WILL be). I put a pencil to some paper, and ended up writing down a mission, or at least the start of one. So I'll write it out here, and I am totally open to ideas/criticisms/words of praise, whatever you have to give..

Hi Alex, glad you're coming. I was afraid he would travel all the way from sun city west while on family visit and have 1 or 2 people meet him. :)

Hi Alex,
I'd love to have your support. It'll make a big differnce for the council members to know that people are actually building community gardens, like you are, and it'll make more sense when we ask them for their support to initiate more of them. See you!

Hope you can wait a week for this one - Rain in the forecast!

well I am trying to get the next transition town meeting together first week of Dec. How about you getting something started specifically for the tempe group - movie, get together, look around for a class location? Check with Lis. If you have time, check out bookstore: http://www.wix.com/ecobooksaz/Eco-Books
Lis spoke with them and they expressed interest in azhs activities, possibly classes. I haven't been able to open their site. Welcome back.
